Abdalla Hussein
\u200bAbdalla Hussein is the Regional Desk Manager for Médecins Sans Frontières, overseeing operations in South Sudan, Sudan, Chad, Kenya, and the Horn of Africa. He has more than 17 years of experience leading humanitarian operations across East, Central, and West Africa, as well as the Middle East, particularly in contexts affected by emergencies and armed conflict.
Gul Badshah
\u200bGul Badshah is a senior humanitarian leader and Regional Operations Manager with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), overseeing multi-country operations in South Sudan, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. He has over 20 years of experience managing complex humanitarian responses across Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East, with a strong focus on emergency response, access, security, and principled operational leadership in conflict-affected environments.
Zakariya Mwatia
\u200bZakariya Mwatia has served as Head of Operations for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) for nearly two and a half years, overseeing response efforts following the eruption of conflict in 2025 and closely monitoring its impact on affected populations. During this time, he has played a central role in shaping and adapting MSF’s operational strategies to meet rapidly evolving humanitarian and medical needs. A seasoned humanitarian professional, Zakariya brings over 21 years of experience working in emergency settings across the globe. His extensive field background spans complex crises, where he has contributed to delivering critical medical and humanitarian assistance under challenging conditions. As a Kenyan national, Zakariya offers valuable regional insight, combining his deep understanding of local dynamics with a strong grasp of the broader humanitarian landscape.
Helen Richards
\u200bHelen Richards is a humanitarian affairs advisor for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), based in Nairobi. With over 15 years of experience in humanitarian response and project management, she closely follows humanitarian affairs across multiple countries in East Africa and beyond, including South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, and Nigeria. Helen has worked in project management and advisory roles with various humanitarian organisations, giving her deep insight into the political, humanitarian, and operational landscapes shaping crisis responses. She is particularly focused on South Sudan, where she serves as the focal advisor for humanitarian affairs and has closely followed developments in the country for several years.
