Sudan: Drone attacks in Darfur MSF treats 56 wounded people

Flashquote Muriel Boursier, MSF Emergency Coordinator in Darfur

"Since Sunday evening, in less than 24 hours, MSF teams in Darfur have treated 56 wounded people and recorded two deaths following five drone attacks carried out by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). In West Darfur, MSF teams at El Geneina Teaching Hospital treated 25 people, including four children, wounded in a strike near the city on Sunday night. On Monday morning, MSF also received three people wounded from a drone strike that hit the busy Tululu market along the Zalingei-Geneina road.

In Central Darfur, MSF teams treated 28 wounded at Zalingei Teaching Hospital following four drone strikes in the region. Two deaths were also reported.

As Sudan enters its fourth year of war, these attacks by the Sudanese Armed Forces demonstrate complete disregard for civilian life. People are being killed on roads, and in markets. Nowhere is safe. Both warring parties are attacking and killing civilians, as they have done for years. This must stop now, this level of violence and suffering inflicted cannot continue.

The humanitarian crisis in Sudan is one of the largest in the world, and for the past three years, civilians have been enduring extreme violence that has devastated every aspect of their lives. MSF works in nine states across Sudan, responding to emergencies while providing essential medical care. Once again, we call on the warring parties in Sudan to protect civilians."
